Today it is April 26th, and Colorado Lockdown is over! Or is it? This is the day CO governor Jared Polis said Coloradans would be free to leave their homes and the stay at home order expires. Sounds great right? I mean, we had a countdown going in our home for weeks now!
It would be great, except the Jefferson county health commissioner has informed us that the public health director has authority and has decided our county does NOT get to leave home today after all. He extended the order to May 8th!
In fact, he’s went a step further threatening fines and arrests. Of course, the police don’t work for him, they work for the people, they’re sworn to protect and serve the community, not dole out punishments to the citizens on orders of the health director.
As you can see in the next image, the tattletale campaigns was a MASSIVE success.
So how does Jeffco looks today? Did the citizens quietly listen and continue in their homes? I am proud to say NO. Fresh air and exercise are very important, and while the police were out in FULL FORCE on the roads, the parking lots at public spaces were packed. We did not see the police interfering with anyone using those Jeffco open spaces, although “technically” they’re closed.
You cannot keep healthy people out of work, locked up, and isolated, that is tyranny, not public health policy. It’ll be interesting to see Polis unveil his plans for the next few months, I’m seeing a few come out already though from the county levels.
