Colorado King Soopers Panic Buying empty shelves COVID19

American COVID-19 Diary- march 16, 2020-Grocery shopping during panic buying

So much has happened in the last 24 hours, if you haven’t read the International Updated I posted, check that out here, but before I give the update for today Tuesday, March 16th, 2020, I want to share an account of my trip to Kroger (aka King Soopers) here in my area of West Denver. We drove a few miles out to a more remote are with a new development called Candelas. I thought this isolated King Soopers, near the range, would be more stocked than most inner city stores.

I was wrong, and I was shocked.

The shelves from panic buying worried Colaradans was in full force. The shelves were bare of all basics such as flour, sugar, canned goods, bread, and more. I got the last thing of eggs. It was seriously kind of end of world scary and surreal. Here’s some pics I took, and yes, the glass is cracked in the pic, we saw a total of 4 cracked doors, but no way to tell if that was pre panic buying either.

If we had family here, we would have left the kids at home. My 11 year old told me today the story of an older man behind us in one of the aisles. I guess he kind of hung back a bit and waited for the kids to move on. How scary to see the older generation truly live in fear from us.

I guess this is the new normal. Sure, it’ll restock this week, maybe even twice, but the supply chain is broken. It’s past collapsing, it is broken. The government is saying 8 weeks. More International updates in a new post. For now, stay safe friends, and share with me in the comments what your local store looks like.
